This proposed large family home will be located in a generous greenfield site in Headford town, within the former tree-lined gardens of a significant house in the town. As the site is behind the main streets we undertook a detailed analysis of the existing backland buildings behind Main Street and Bridge Street. This allowed us to generate a concept that respected the history and traditions of the site and its context in the town. The many existing stone outbuildings, archways and large timber shed doors were to become important references. The layout of the proposed stone clad house is arranged to enclose a south facing terrace and new walled garden area for the children to play in which is overlooked from all the living spaces. The two mature trees on site are to be retained as focal points of the overall design, with a long winding driveway framing views of the ruins of a local Church in the distance.
